Charlie has spent 20 years making the complex, simple. First as a financial journalist – including at the FT Group and The Wall Street Journal – and then as a financial communications consultant, executive coach, and author.
He won The Plain English Campaign’s Communicator of the Year in 2018, and his book The Art of Plain Speaking won the Short Business Book of the Year at the 2019 Business Book Awards.
Charlie joined Templar in 2022 after 10 years of running his own financial communications firm, which included a spell as editorial director for Euromoney’s international conferences business.
He has trained bankers and wealth managers at all levels, from senior management through to graduates and interns.
His latest book, 12 Birds To Save Your Life, Nature’s Lessons in Happiness, was published by Penguin last year and nominated for the 2022 Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing.
When he isn’t coaching people in how to communicate clearly and effectively, he travels the country giving talks on the natural world and its power to heal.
Charlie has an MA (Hons) in History from The University of Edinburgh.
